Around this time last year, I went to the US at the peak of the fall/autumn season. I know a lot of people who claim that fall is their favorite season, and after experiencing it for myself, I can understand why. I normally visit the US during the winter (for Christmas break) or spring (which coincides with Holy Week) but since I was on indefinite vacation last year after I resigned from my corporate job, I decided to go to the US in October. I deliberately booked a trip during autumn as it was symbolic of how my life was drastically changing with the resignation and the quest for a new venture (because I’m melodramatic like that. LOL).
Looking back, my life now is so different from how I envisioned it to be a year ago, when I was still hopeful that my life purpose would be revealed to me and I would have clear direction on how I would live every day of my life. Now I’m still seeking clarity and purpose, but I’ve been learning a lot about myself and life in general (but that’s for another blog post).
So before we jump to the Christmas season once and for all (which started as early as September 1 in the Philippines and will end sometime in mid-January hehe), I’m posting some photos from my autumn vacation last year. Here’s a short list of why I love this season:
1. The weather
I love how I could go out without bundling up as I usually do during winter. A long-sleeved top or a light jacket will do. The breeze is just perfect.
2. Pumpkin everything
Pumpkin spiced latte, pumpkin donuts, pumpkin pie, yes, even pumpkin milk tea. I may have tried everything pumpkin flavored/anything with a hint of pumpkin during my stay in the US. We even lined up for the pumpkin donuts at the Circleville fair. I know Starbucks Philippines also has PSL so at least I won’t miss out on that this year.
3. Trick or Treating
We also went trick or treating and it’s amazing how generous people are with candy. LOL. We explored one neighborhood and received a ton of candies my nephew ran out of bags to put them all in. Happy that I got to take home some of them to Manila because my nephew has reached his sugar quota already.
4. The lighting
Autumn lighting is a photographer’s dream. Winter is always dark and gloomy but autumn is just golden. The warm lighting goes well with the color of the trees.
5. The change in colors
I enjoyed seeing leaves on trees with multiple colors from red to green. Coupled with the golden lighting, the trees look like they’re glowing. The beautiful picture of autumn reminds me that God is an artist, and the depths of His creativity is immeasurable. There is no other being who can cause anything to transform, and do it so majestically. And it’s comforting to know that He can do it with people as well.
Sharing some photos from the Circleville Pumpkin Festival in Ohio, a yearly, 4-day celebration that has been ongoing for more than 100 (!) years. Thanks so much to my US fam for taking me here and for the whole autumn experience. 😀
