I’ve been meaning to post these photos since last year, but I only had the time to post them today – coincidentally, on Kevin and Nica’s first wedding anniversary. 🙂 Since I’ve been shooting mostly kids’ events and family portraits, I really miss covering weddings. By far, weddings are more tiring than my current shoots but I do miss listening to couples’ inspiring stories, capturing teary-eyed parents (especially dads of brides hehe), appreciating the event setup and the little details that the couple has put together to make the event special (like how Nica made her dog part of the entourage <3). In this wedding, I know that Kevin and Nica really poured their heart and soul into making the venue beautiful. Yes, they personally decorated the venue (see links to their business ventures above 🙂 ). The venue is actually one huge empty warehouse and I would think it is not a common choice for weddings. But our couple saw potential in it and they were able to transform it elegantly.
Relating to Kevin and Nica’s story and our own personal transformational stories, I do believe that God uses imperfect and emotionally empty people and circumstances to create things that are of value. Marriage is beautiful because it demonstrates the union of two imperfect people by one perfect God. No matter how broken two people are, once they commit to each other in God through marriage, it becomes a relationship with meaning and purpose. It becomes a union where love is prevalent.
This reminds me of a song by Gungor about God making things beautiful:
“You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of the dust
You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of us
All around
Hope is springing up from this old ground
Out of chaos life is being found in You.”
Thank you Dan for getting me to shoot with you on this wedding, and thank you Kevin and Nica for sharing your stories and for the reminder of God’s redemption. 🙂 I think I should go shoot more weddings. Haha
